I left Boca Raton, Florida for a 14-day, 5,000+ mile solo overlanding trip to Utah and Colorado in my Jeep Wrangler. In Episode 1, I cover the first three days of the journey, traveling from Florida through Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma before reaching the backroads of New Mexico. The first few days were about putting serious miles behind me, including a 16-hour drive from Florida to Mississippi, a stop at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, a stretch of Route 66 and finally the search for a remote campsite in New Mexico. That search led me to Mills Canyon in the Kiowa National Grasslands, where I found a remote campsite down in the canyon and spent the night surrounded by incredible scenery and wildlife. In this video, we set out to explore the beautiful Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation in South-Central Florida, discovering an amazing location along the way. We head out for a one-night adventure to test our new setup on the old M416 military trailer, traveling about 2 hours west from our home. Our journey takes us on I75 (also known as Alligator Alley) and into the heart of the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation, where we make a stop at the incredible Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum — an amazing place that showcases the history and culture of the Seminole Tribe. During our trip, we also take a break for a delicious lunch at the Billie Swamp Cafe and explore the Billie Swamp Safari, which, unfortunately, closed down during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was fascinating to wander around this deserted resort, and the entire experience left us with a deeper appreciation for the area. In this video, we head out on a short but exciting overlanding trip to the Big Cypress Preserve in the heart of the Florida Everglades! We explore the scenic Loop Road, a 24-mile drive that offers stunning views and the chance to spot some incredible wildlife, including alligators (which we definitely saw!). 🐊 The Loop Road is accessible to any vehicle, with the first section being paved and the rest a graded road. If you're driving east to west, keep an eye out for some potholes towards the end. While it can get flooded in the summer, we had no issues during our December trip. As we made our way through the preserve, we were amazed by the number of alligators we spotted along the way. It was an unforgettable experience to see these creatures up close in their natural habitat. We also spent the night camping at Midway Campground, located just off the Tamiami Trail.
